Gulf Shores Police Issue Warning About Phone Scam
Scam uses fear tactics to trick residents into sending money

Gulf Shores, Ala. — (OBA) — Gulf Shores residents are being warned about a phone scam involving callers who pretend to be police officers. The Gulf Shores Police Department says it has received several reports from people who were contacted by someone claiming to be a department member. The caller then tries to pressure the person into paying a fake fine or says there is an arrest warrant against them. The police are reminding everyone that these calls are not real.
The Gulf Shores Police Department stressed that it never contacts people to demand money or payment over the phone. They do not accept payment for fines or warrants in the form of gift cards, bitcoin, or other online currencies. Anyone receiving this type of call is being advised not to engage with the scammer and to hang up immediately.

Scammers often try to create a sense of fear or urgency to get people to pay before they have time to think. They may claim you have an unpaid ticket, have an outstanding arrest warrant and that you face arrest unless you send money right away. These calls can seem convincing, but they are fake.
Residents with questions or concerns should contact the Gulf Shores Police Department directly at 251-968-2431. Remember to stay alert and be cautious with any unexpected phone calls.
