State law enforcement leads investigation after multi-agency response on the water

Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — A vessel accident near The Wharf Marina on the Intracoastal Waterway sent nine patients to area hospitals Friday evening. Multiple emergency agencies from the region responded to the scene, and the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) is leading ongoing operations.

The accident occurred on July 18, 2026, at approximately 8:30 pm. The Orange Beach Police Department responded to the scene to assist Orange Beach Fire Rescue and ALEA during the emergency. The joint effort drew on resources from several local and state agencies to secure the area and manage the scene.

During the response, Orange Beach Police assisted personnel in locating the injured parties, securing the scene, and establishing landing zones for an Air Care helicopter.

A coordinated network of responders—including Orange Beach Fire Rescue, MedStar Ambulance, Gulf Shores Fire Rescue, and a medical helicopter—participated in the transport of the nine patients to area medical facilities.

In accordance with standard procedures for vessel accidents, ALEA assumed command of the crash operations and will serve as the responsible party for the incident.
