Pair suspected of stealing trailer from construction site
(OBA®) – On July 17, Gulf Shores Police Department initiated an investigation into the report of a stolen enclosed utility trailer from a construction site which contained an estimated $25,000 in tools inside. The investigation revealed the trailer was stolen on July 16 at approximately 5:47 p.m.
The suspects involved were observed traveling northbound on Gulf Shores Parkway where they turned onto East 29th Street. Shortly after receiving the initial call on the stolen trailer, police received a call reference a stolen U-Haul pick-up truck on East Second Street near East 29th Avenue. The investigations turned out to be related and that the suspects who stole the trailer had now stolen a U-Haul pick-up truck.
On July 16 at 6:42 p.m. an officer spotted a large plume of smoke coming from behind the old Sacred Heart building in the 3600 block of Gulf Shores Pkwy. and investigated the cause. The officer spotted a silver GMC pick-up truck fully engulfed in flames.
The Alabama tag on the burning truck did not return to the burning truck. Once the truck had cooled down enough to safely investigate the VIN on the truck. The burnt truck was a 1997 GMC Sierra which had been reported stolen out of Aberdeen, Mississippi on July 7. This burnt truck was verified as the truck used to steal the utility trailer from the construction site.
The stolen trailer was last observed heading north on Highway 59 from the area of Cotton Creek Road being pulled by the stolen U-Haul truck. The suspects involved in the theft of the trailer, theft of the U-Haul, and the burning of the stolen truck were noted to be one white male subject and another subject that appears to be a white male. One was wearing a yellow shirt and one was wearing a grey shirt.
With the assistance of Mobile police, Aberdeen police and Monroe County Sheriff’s Office persons of interest were developed. On July 22 the stolen U-Haul truck was stopped by Mobile police and two subjects were taken into custody. One of the subjects matched one of the suspects involved in all three cases investigated by the Gulf Shores Police Department. On July 23 the Gulf Shores Police Department received two counts of theft of property first, one count of burglary third, one county of receiving stolen property second, and one count of criminal mischief second on Timothy Ryan Holmes, 27.
At this time the stolen trailer has not been located. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Michael Hoguet at 251-968-9841 or mhoguet@gulfshoresal.gov.
