Foley, Ala. — (OBA) —  Baldwin County has opened a free cooling center in Foley in response to dangerous heat affecting the area. The center is at St. Paul's Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 506 N. Pine St., Foley. It will be open Monday and Tuesday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Pets are welcome, provided they remain under their owner's control.

The cooling center opened on Monday, July 27, 2026, and will remain open through Tuesday, July 28, 2026. Water and light snacks will be available throughout both days. Visitors are encouraged to bring personal comfort items. Overnight stays will not be available.

St. Paul's Episcopal Church will also hold its regularly scheduled Community Meal on Monday evening from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The meal is open to anyone in need. Residents do not need to be using the cooling center to receive a meal.

The National Weather Service Mobile/Pensacola warned that dangerous, prolonged heat is expected through midweek. A Heat Advisory is in effect for the entire area, with heat index values projected between 108°F and 112°F. An Excessive Heat Watch is also in place for coastal areas, where heat index values may reach 110°F to 115°F.

Baldwin EMA said these conditions significantly increase the risk of heat-related illnesses. The agency is urging residents — especially vulnerable individuals — to use the cooling center, stay hydrated, and avoid spending prolonged time outdoors. Residents are also asked to check on their neighbors during this dangerous heat event.
