Gulf Shores, Ala. — (OBA) —  The Gulf Coast Chamber's Island Spirit Award committee, presented by Bluewater Exteriors, announced that Rocio Miranda-Garcia of De Soto's Seafood Kitchen is the June 2026 winner. Miranda-Garcia was honored for her outstanding service and dedication to her customers and community. The award is one of the chamber's longest-running traditions, honoring individuals who consistently go above and beyond for those they serve.

The announcement was made in July 2026 as part of the chamber's ongoing effort to spotlight non-management workers in Coastal Alabama. Miranda-Garcia works at De Soto's Seafood Kitchen, where she has earned a reputation for making customers feel genuinely welcome. Her nomination drew praise from someone who witnessed her dedication firsthand.

An excerpt from the nomination letter described her impact in clear terms. "Rocio is an exceptional person who goes above and beyond every single day," the letter read. "She shows up consistently, works hard, and has a true gift for making her customers feel like guests rather than just customers — that personal touch is something people remember and come back for."

The nomination also highlighted Miranda-Garcia's personal strength in the face of serious illness. "What makes her even more remarkable is her resilience," the letter continued. "Rocio battled thyroid cancer and beat it — she's now in remission — and through it all, she never lost her smile or her positive attitude."

Her nominator noted that Miranda-Garcia's spirit remained unchanged even during difficult times. "She comes back to work every day with the same warmth and good spirit she's always had, even on a cloudy day," the letter stated. "She truly embodies what the Island Spirit Award is all about, and I think she'd be a wonderful and deserving recipient."
