Gulf Shores, Ala. — (OBA) —  Gulf Shores families can trade their rooftops for the open sky this fall. The City of Gulf Shores Recreation and Cultural Affairs Department is hosting a Family Camping Night at Sims Park Ball Fields. The event includes s'mores, a bonfire, games, and family activities. Registration is now open on the city's community programs website.

The overnight event runs from 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, November 7, through 9 a.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2026. Families will gather at Sims Park Ball Fields in Gulf Shores for a night of outdoor fun. The event lets participants camp out together without leaving the city.

Two camping options are available for families who want to participate. Families can rent a tent for $50, which includes a tent and food for up to four people. Those who prefer to bring their own tent can register for $30, which also includes food for up to four people. Each additional participant beyond four people costs $5.

Participants are asked to bring several items from home to be prepared for the night:

  • Sleeping bags or bedding
  • Chairs
  • Snacks and drinks
  • Bug repellent
  • Flashlights

Organizers note that grills and pets are not permitted at the event. Families should plan accordingly and leave those items at home. These rules are in place to keep the event safe and enjoyable for all campers.

Residents with questions can contact the Gulf Shores Community Programs team at 251-968-9818. Families can also register online at
gulfshoresal.gov/communityprograms. Space is limited, so organizers encourage you to register early to secure a campsite spot.
