Foley Continues Standardizing Neighborhood Speed Zones
City moves to match speed limits across more roads

Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — Foley is making additional modifications to help keep drivers and pedestrians safe. The city is moving forward with plans to adjust speed limits in another neighborhood. Leaders want to make traffic rules more consistent across Foley. The changes are part of a larger effort to improve safety and reduce confusion for drivers.
At a recent meeting, the Foley City Council gave early approval to standardize speed limits in the southeast part of the city. A final vote will happen at an upcoming meeting. Mayor Ralph Hellmich said this plan is similar to one approved in May for the southwest area. That earlier plan focused on streets west of Alabama 59 and south of U.S. 98.

“This is another part of old Foley where we wanted to standardize the speed limits,” Hellmich said. He added that the new plan will make the rules more consistent for drivers in the area.
The southeast quadrant is bordered by Alabama 59 to the west, South Pecan Street to the east, U.S. 98 to the north, and East Azalea Avenue to the south.
All east-west streets in the area will have speed limits of 20 miles per hour. Most north-south streets will also be set to 20 miles per hour. Two main roads, South Juniper Street and South Cypress Street, will remain at 30 miles per hour.
All alleys in the quadrant will keep their current 10 mile-per-hour speed limit.
