Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — The cause of the boat explosion at Safe Harbor Marina in Orange Beach on Sunday continues to be investigated. The incident involved the vessel "ANDIAMO," which caught fire on Monday afternoon. Firefighters responded quickly, but the situation remained dangerous due to a drifting boat and a fuel spill. The cause of the explosion has not yet been confirmed.

Orange Beach Fire Rescue was dispatched at 4:17 p.m., and Fire Boat 2 arrived by 4:25 p.m. The secondary fire was reported fully extinguished by 4:39 p.m. According to Fire Chief Jeff Smith, the main challenge was that the boat was floating freely within the marina. This made it challenging to keep the hose streams on the moving target.

The explosion also resulted in a fuel spill into the water. The U.S. Coast Guard was notified during the response and arrived to assist with environmental safety. Debris and pollution control remain a concern as the investigation continues.

Two people were taken to the emergency room following the blast. As of now, their condition has not been released. The boat was recovered later that same evening by a private contractor, according to Chief Smith.

While the exact cause is unknown, the fire department reminds boaters to follow safety protocols. These include using bilge blowers before starting engines, keeping bilge areas clean, and regularly checking fuel and engine parts. These steps may help prevent future accidents.
