High School Students Invited To Join Gulf Shores Junior City Council
Up to 15 students in grades 10–12 can apply to serve on the program through August 28
Gulf Shores, Ala. — (OBA) — Gulf Shores is now accepting applications for its 2026–2027 Junior City Council program. The program offers high school students in grades 10 through 12 the opportunity to learn how local government works. Students also build leadership skills and participate in real community projects. The city is seeking applicants who live within the city limits of Gulf Shores.
The City of Gulf Shores will select up to 15 students to serve on the Junior City Council. Applications will be accepted through Friday, August 28, 2026. Finalist interviews are scheduled for the week after the deadline.
Once selected, participants will serve from September through May. During that period, members will meet monthly, hear from guest speakers, and collaborate on projects that benefit Gulf Shores. Students will also attend official City Council meetings and participate in community initiatives.
Mayor Robert Craft emphasized the program's importance. "The Junior City Council plays a vital role in shaping the future of our community by connecting students directly with city leadership," Craft said. "Each year, our student leaders bring fresh ideas, thoughtful perspectives, and a determined commitment to making Gulf Shores an even better place to live."
Craft added that the enthusiasm students bring each year is encouraging. "Their enthusiasm reminds us that our community's future is bright, and we are proud to support their growth as young civic leaders," he said.
The city is seeking students who demonstrate leadership, possess strong communication skills, and are committed to serving others. The program offers a hands-on look at how municipal decisions are made at the local level.
