The Blue Angels have called nearby Naval Air Station Pensacola home for decades. Their annual beach performance has become a tradition for residents and visitors alike. The team flies six F/A-18 Super Hornets in close formation, demonstrating precision flying skills honed through months of training.
Activities begin before the official air show, as aircraft arrive in the area and practice flights take place over the beach. These sessions offer spectators several opportunities to watch the Blue Angels perform before the Saturday finale. Civilian performers are also expected to participate throughout the event.
Much of the activity centers around the Pensacola Beach Gulf Pier and Casino Beach, where thousands gather for the best views. Many visitors arrive early each day because parking fills quickly and beach access becomes crowded as the performances approach.
Formed in 1946, the Blue Angels demonstrate the capabilities of naval aviation and inspire public interest in military service. Today, the squadron performs at dozens of air shows across North America each year while serving as ambassadors for the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps.
Local businesses typically see a sharp increase in visitors during air show week. Hotels, restaurants, and shops often experience one of their busiest weekends of the summer as aviation fans travel to the area. Organizers encourage guests to plan ahead, allow extra travel time, and follow public safety guidance throughout the event.
Admission to the Pensacola Beach Air Show is free, so spectators can watch from public beaches and other viewing areas. Event organizers expect the milestone anniversaries and the Blue Angels' hometown performance to make the 2026 show one of the largest in recent years.
