‘Sand in My Boots’ Road Closures in Gulf Shores Begin Today
All traffic will return to normal on May 20th
Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – As the City of Gulf Shores gets ready to welcome visitors of the 'Sand In My Boots' Festival, there will be some temporary transportation changes in the area. The inconveniences are small when compared to the recognition the coast will gain from hosting such a high profile event.
City of Gulf Shores officials have provided detailed maps of these changes to help with traffic and keep pedestrians safe during the event. Road closures and one-way routes will affect several streets near the beach. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead and follow posted signs.
On Tuesday, May 13, Highway 59 south of West 1st Avenue and Highway 182 (Beach Boulevard) between West 2nd Street and East 3rd Street will be closed. These areas will not be open to cars or pedestrians.
To get to West Beach, use Windmill Ridge Road, West 2nd Avenue to West 1st Street, or West 1st Avenue. To reach Orange Beach, drivers should use the Gulf State Park, Canal Road, or East 1st Avenue.
Also on May 13, traffic will be one-way only on West 1st Avenue to West 1st Street and East 1st Avenue to East 4th Avenue. This will help manage large crowds on foot.
East Beach Boulevard from East 2nd Street to East 3rd Street will be open to local traffic only during the same time.
On Thursday, May 15, West Beach Boulevard between West 2nd Street and West 3rd Street will be closed to all cars.
By Tuesday, May 20, all roads are expected to be back to normal, with no detours or closures in place.
Officials ask the public to follow maps and traffic signs during the festival for a safe and smooth experience.
Shuttle Map:
Shuttle service will run continuously from Friday to Sunday during the Sand In My Boots Music Festival. Shuttle stops are located throughout Gulf Shores and Orange Beach, including Pelican Place, Hampton Inn, Waves Market, The Gulf, and several hotels. Parking is available at each stop marked with a “P” symbol. Riders can board the North, West, or East shuttle lines and will be dropped off near the festival site.
Price: $70 for a 3-day pass
City of Gulf Shores officials also stated, "We apologize for the inconvenience, and we appreciate your patience as we work to balance the needs of our residents and the wonderful event opportunities we are fortunate to host in our community. We would like to remind our residents and guests of the ample beach parking and access points still accessible during this time."
