Gulf Shores, Ala. — (OBA) —  The City of Gulf Shores has announced the launch of Gulf Shores 101, a new interactive citizen academy. The program is open to residents and local business owners seeking to learn more about how the city operates. Participants will meet city leaders, visit key departments, and tour important facilities. They will also take part in hands-on activities and learn about the services that keep the community running.

The seven-week course begins on Tuesday, September 15, 2026, and runs through Tuesday, October 27, 2026. Classes meet every Tuesday evening from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Each session will focus on a different aspect of city operations, departmental roles, and ways residents can get involved. The program is designed to help participants become informed, engaged partners in their community.

City Administrator Jon Walker expressed enthusiasm for the new academy. "We are excited to offer Gulf Shores 101 as a way to bring our residents even closer to the work we do every day," Walker said. "This program is designed to empower our community by providing transparency, strengthening connections, and helping citizens understand how they can play an active role in keeping Gulf Shores a vibrant and welcoming place to live."

Applications for Gulf Shores 101 open on Tuesday, August 11, and close on Monday, August 31. Space in the program is limited, and interested applicants must submit an application to be considered.

Those selected for the program will be asked to pay a $25 program fee. The fee helps cover the costs of the seven-week course.
