Riviera Utilities Earns National Recognition for Natural Gas Operations
Award recognizes commitment to safety, workforce, and system reliability

Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — Foley-based Riviera Utilities has been recognized once again for its strong record in operating a natural gas utility. The company received the System Operational Achievement Recognition, also known as SOAR, from the American Public Gas Association. Riviera was selected from hundreds of providers across the country. The honor highlights both safety and service while also pointing to the utility’s focus on long-term improvements.
The 2025 SOAR awards were announced at the American Public Gas Association Annual Conference in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. The award is granted every three years, and recipients can apply for renewal after that time. Riviera Utilities previously received SOAR recognition in 2022, making this its second consecutive period of national distinction.
According to the association, Riviera was chosen from among about 750 member utilities. The selection was made by peers serving on the APGA Operations and Safety Committee. Evaluations are based on performance in four areas: system integrity, system improvement, employee safety, and workforce development.
The recognition is intended to spotlight natural gas utilities that follow the highest standards of safety and reliability while continuing to strengthen operations for their communities. The American Public Gas Association represents more than 700 public natural gas providers nationwide, serving over 5 million customers.
Riviera Utilities is not limited to gas services. The public utility also provides electric and wastewater operations in parts of Baldwin County. Oversight is handled by a board of directors chosen by the city of Foley, which owns the utility.
