Gulf Shores, Ala. — (OBA) —  Gulf Shores is moving forward with major upgrades to its municipal airport terminal as city leaders evaluate three airport projects totaling nearly $2.58 million. Supported by $2.45 million in federal funding alongside local authority matching funds, the agreements will optimize airport infrastructure and advance ongoing passenger terminal construction.

The regular meeting is scheduled for this afternoon, Monday, September 14, 2026, at 4 PM in Gulf Shores City Hall's Council Chambers.

If approved, Federal Aviation Administration grants will fund Phase 4 passenger boarding ramps and additional terminal projects. The work requires a small match from the Airport Authority, with no city funds being spent.

Council members will also hold a public hearing to amend the Walking Area Overlay District ordinance. The proposed text and map amendments expand overlay boundaries west to West 6th Street and east to the middle of the block between East 3rd Street and East 4th Street to encompass specific Business Tourist (BT-1, BT-3, and BT-4) properties, while updating guidelines for repairing nonconforming structures within overlay districts.
