Original Article: Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – Orange Beach will have to wait until noon on Saturday, May 2, to continue a second-round state tournament series against Bibb County after rain suspended play on May 1 at the city’s Sportsplex. Two Lady Makos sports teams dodged the rains enough to advance to the next round of postseason play with wins on the softball field and soccer pitch.

The Orange Beach Makos baseball team will continue the series, weather permitting, on May 2 at noon at the Sportsplex, continuing a game with Bibb County leading 3-2 in the third inning. A second game will follow. If the teams split in those games, a third will be required to see which team advances to the third round of the state tournament to face Houston Academy. The home team in that series will be determined by the outcome of the Orange Beach-Bibb County series winner.

The softball team clinched its area tournament with two run-rule wins over Satsuma, 15-0 and 16-1. Hitting home runs in the two games were Katie King with three, Addy Oldham with two, Ava Hodo, and MK McMullan with one each. Orange Beach moves on to the regional tournament in Gulf Shores starting on May 11, according to the AHSAA spring sports book.

For the first time in program history, the Orange Beach Lady Makos soccer team will advance to the state final four in Huntsville. The soccer quarterfinal game was delayed by rain after halftime, but the teams returned to finish with Orange Beach winning 3-2. The Lady Makos will take on the winner of today’s game of St. Luke’s v. Westminster Christian in the state tournament final four in Huntsville on Wednesday, May 6, at 9 a.m.
