Oxford, Ala. – (OBA) –   The Orange Beach Varsity Makos powerfully announced their presence at the State Softball Tournament on Wednesday, securing three decisive victories and setting the stage for a fifth consecutive championship title. Their dominant performance saw them defeat West Blocton Varsity Tigers 15-0, Alexandria Varsity Valley Cubs 3-0, and Satsuma Varsity Gators 13-0, showcasing a potent combination of hitting and pitching prowess. The Makos will now compete for the championship crown at 5:00 PM today, Thursday.

Makos Unleash Offensive Firepower Against West Blocton

In their opening game, the Makos' offense exploded against West Blocton. Katie King was a standout performer, tallying three hits, including an exciting inside-the-park home run in the first inning. A nine-run fourth inning sealed the victory, highlighted by key RBIs from Ava Hodo, Taylor Poland, Kaitlynn Robertson, Justine Henderson (with a home run), LC Robbins (another inside-the-park homer), and Daigle Wilson. The Makos had 19 hits in total, with Hodo leading the charge with four RBIs and a perfect 4-for-4 day at the plate. King, Wilson, Robbins, Revette, and Henderson also recorded multiple hits. Demonstrating their aggressive style, the Makos stole five bases. Pitcher MK McMullan was dominant in the circle, earning a shutout victory by allowing just two hits and striking out four over four innings.

Favors Shines in Pitching Duel Against Alexandria

The second game presented a tighter matchup, but the Makos' pitching once again proved to be the deciding factor in a 3-0 win over Alexandria. KG Favors delivered an exceptional performance, pitching a complete game and recording all 21 outs for Orange Beach. The Makos' offense was efficient, scoring two runs in the first inning courtesy of a Revette double and a Jayde Palmer single. They added an insurance run later in the contest. King and Robertson each contributed two hits, while Revette, Hodo, and Palmer each drove in a run. The Makos' defense was also stellar, turning two crucial double plays and maintaining a clean sheet with no errors. Revette led the defensive effort with the most plays in the field.

Early Onslaught Propels Makos Past Satsuma

In their final game of the day, the Makos established an insurmountable lead early against Satsuma, scoring 11 runs in the first inning on the way to a 13-0 victory. The initial offensive surge was fueled by hits from Hodo, Palmer, KG Favors (with a double), Robbins, and King, along with an error by Satsuma. Hodo added another double in the third inning to extend the Makos' advantage. MK McMullan once again secured the win for Orange Beach, pitching five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit, and striking out six. Hodo led the offense with three hits, while Revette and King each chipped in with two.

Makos Positioned for Historic Fifth Straight Title

Wednesday's dominant tripleheader showcased the Orange Beach Varsity Makos' exceptional talent and unwavering determination. Their potent offense, stellar pitching performances, and solid defense have positioned them perfectly for their fifth consecutive state championship. With only one game standing between them and this historic achievement, the Makos have demonstrated that their winning formula is as strong as ever.
