Multiple Agencies Baldwin County Agencies Battle Wildfire at Gulf State Park
State helicopter drops water from the lagoon to help extinguish the fire

Gulf Shores, Ala. — (OBA) — A brush fire at Gulf State Park in Gulf Shores prompted numerous first responders from around Baldwin County to scramble on Tuesday. The fire spread quickly, causing road closures and the evacuation of businesses in the area. Crews worked both on the ground and from the air to control it. No homes or businesses have been reported damaged, and no injuries have been reported.
The fire started on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at the rear entrance to Waterworld in Gulf Shores. Authorities say they were called out for an electrical hazard shortly after 1:30 in the afternoon. Officials believe the fire started when a tree fell onto a power line. Just under 120 acres burned.
The state’s helicopter pulled water from the Little Lagoon, dropping it onto the fire. Flames had been pushed back to the north side of Waterville, and the fire was considered extinguished by 7:30 pm.
Multiple agencies responded to the scene, including Gulf Shores Fire Rescue, Gulf Shores Police, ALEA, Bon Secour Fire, Fort Morgan Fire Rescue, Belforest Volunteer Fire Dept., Fairhope Fire Dept., Silverhill Fire Dept., Rosinton Fire Dept., Orange Beach Fire Rescue, and the Alabama Forestry Commission.
The City of Gulf Shores closed Highway 59 from Waterville to Fort Morgan Road because of the fire. Other roads shut down included East Fort Morgan Road at Highway 59 and East 2nd Street South from 15th Avenue. Businesses located south of East Fort Morgan Road and east of Highway 59 were evacuated for safety. Approximately 1,000 electric meters were without power in the area. They were all restored by Wednesday morning.
The timing made things tougher. The fire started during Spring Break, when the area was crowded with visitors. People were stuck in traffic jams throughout Gulf Shores and Orange Beach on Tuesday afternoon.
By the end of the day, all roads had reopened except for State Park Road, where crews remained on the scene. As of this morning, all roads in Gulf State Park have all reopened.
Thank you to Chris Daniels, who was on the scene, documenting the firefighting efforts by all the agencies involved. We’ve put them in the slideshow below.
