Gulf Shores, Ala. — (OBA) — Two conservation groups are partnering to celebrate the marine animals inhabiting Alabama's Gulf Coast. The Alabama Coastal Foundation and Healthy Gulf are hosting a free public event at the Gulf Coast Eco Center in Gulf Shores. The evening will include short films, educational displays, and presentations by local advocates. Snacks and beverages will also be served.

The event, titled "Celebrating Alabama's Marine Life," is scheduled for Thursday, August 27, 2026, from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. It will take place in the Palmetto Room at the Gulf Coast Eco Center, 1650 Eco Trail, Gulf Shores, AL 36542. Organizers describe the Palmetto Room as a fitting venue for the occasion.

Attendees will hear from several featured presenters during the evening. Mark Berte, executive director of the Alabama Coastal Foundation, is among those scheduled to speak. Dr. Ruth Carmichael, founder and director of the Marine Mammal Research Program at Dauphin Island Sea Lab, will also speak. Bethany Salvon and Randy Kalp, a team of travel photographers and journalists who advocate for endangered species under the Instagram handle beersandbeans, round out the lineup.

The event will focus on animals, including sea turtles, whales, and manatees, that share Alabama's beaches and waterways. Organizers plan to provide an update on sea turtle nesting activity along Alabama's beaches. The presentations aim to inform the public about ongoing conservation efforts in the region.
