Gulf Shores, Ala. — (OBA) — Residents in Gulf Shores will choose the next City Council member for Place No. 1 in a runoff election. Contestants for Place 1 include incumbent Joe Garris, JR. and challenger Austin “Coach” Boyd. City officials ask that voters check their assigned polling place before heading out, since locations differ by address. Residents must have a government issued photo ID, as required by Alabama law. The runoff election is scheduled for this Tuesday, September 23rd. Officials note that participation in the runoff is not contingent on having voted in the August 26, 2025, municipal election. All registered voters who live within the corporate limits are eligible to vote in the runoff.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Voters who live north of the Intracoastal Canal Bridge will vote at the Gulf Shores Cultural Center, 19470 Oak Road West. Voters who live south of the bridge will vote at the Erie H. Meyer Civic Center, 1930 West 2nd Street.

The Cultural Center is located on County Road 6 and serves neighborhoods north of the canal in Gulf Shores City Limits. The Erie H. Meyer Civic Center is located behind City Hall and serves areas on the island side of the Intracoastal Canal. 

Some residents voted at Saint Andrews by the Sea Church in the General Election. The city says that site is associated with the General Election and not the runoff. A note on the city map also explains a change for some voters. Those who voted in General Precinct 55 will vote in Municipal Precinct 39.

If unsure about a precinct, voters can consult the city’s map and the sample ballot below. The materials show precinct lines, addresses, and where each facility is located.

Anyone new to the city or recently moved within city limits should confirm registration details. A quick check could avoid problems at check-in. If records need updates, voters should act in advance of Election Day. The city suggests contacting election staff with any questions.

Parking is available at both sites, but traffic near the bridge can build during commuting hours. Arriving earlier in the day might help. Mid-morning and mid-afternoon typically see lighter flow. Voters with tight schedules may want to plan around those windows.
