Updated list of streets where golf carts are allowed

Gulf Shores City Hall

Updated to clarify that the only changes to the Gulf Shores current ordinances is to add additional Streets in the Gulf Pines neighborhood. All other streets and rules were already in place.

Gulf Shores, Ala. — (
OBA) — An update to the city's golf cart ordinance is on the agenda for tonight’s Gulf Shores City Council meeting. The proposed amendment would expand the number of public streets where golf carts are allowed. Officials say the goal is to enhance neighborhood connectivity while prioritizing public safety. However, the ordinance makes it clear that residents use golf carts on city streets at their own risk.

The ordinance would add 15 new streets across neighborhoods in Gulf Pines to the list of Designated Cart Streets. Golf carts must display a city-issued permit sticker and may only be operated between sunrise and 10 p.m. by licensed drivers age 18 or older. Operators must also carry liability insurance and adhere to all applicable traffic laws.

The meeting is scheduled for this evening, June 23, 2025, at 4 p.m. at Gulf Shores City Hall.

In addition to the golf cart ordinance, the council will consider the following agenda items:
