Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — Foley’s elected leadership began a new term as the mayor, council, and city administrators were sworn into office at an organizational meeting. The session took place before the regular council meeting. The mayor thanked the council and staff for their service. He also emphasized teamwork and the role of families who support officials during public service. The ceremony included both returning and new members.

The new four-year term started on Monday, November 3. Mayor Ralph Hellmich took the oath for his second term in office. Baldwin County District Attorney Robert Wilters administered the oaths to elected officials and staff. The event was held in Foley with city leaders and employees present.

Council members sworn in were Wayne Trawick of District 1, Timothy “Tim” Lower of District 2, Roderick Burkle of District 3, Larry Engel of District 4, and Charles Ebert III of District 5. Trawick will continue to serve as council president. Ebert will continue as council president pro tempore. These assignments keep the council’s leadership structure in place for the new term.

Hellmich thanked the council members for stepping up to serve the city. He noted that public service is not easy and involves many differing opinions. He also thanked the families of officials, saying the work requires time and commitment. He said the council will continue working together for Foley.

City court officials, executive directors, and department directors were also sworn in for the term. Hellmich said the administrators and staff are key to Foley’s success. He praised public safety leaders, the department chiefs, and the executive directors. He said the new executive director structure is entering its first full term and is working well.

“We have an outstanding city staff and workers that make this all work,” Hellmich said during the meeting. He added that their efforts help the city’s progress and reputation. He affirmed the city’s motto as the Forward City. He said leaders will do everything they can to keep it that way.

Wilters, a Baldwin County native who lives in Foley, also thanked those serving the city. He said Foley is a good and safe place to live. He shared appreciation on behalf of those who live in the community. The remarks underscored the city’s focus on safety and quality of life.

During the organizational meeting, the council also handled internal business. Members were designated to serve on city boards. The council also named depositories for city funds. These steps set the framework for city operations in the new term.

The meeting closed after the oaths and assignments were completed. City leaders noted the importance of staff at all levels. Officials said the teamwork between elected leaders and employees supports services for residents.
