Friends Of Foley Public Library Fundraiser Features Thousands Of Discounted Books And Media For All Ages

Foley Library Book Sale Brings Big Selection And Small Prices

Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — The Friends of the Foley Public Library will once again turn the Foley Civic Center into a bargain hunter’s paradise as thousands of books and other media go on sale to support local literacy efforts. Gently used best-sellers, classics, and specialty titles will fill rows of tables across the main hall. Organizers say the annual sale offers one of the biggest and most varied selections under one roof in Baldwin County. Admission is free and open to the public, making the event accessible for families, teachers, and avid readers on any budget.

The 2026 sale begins with a special members-only preview on Thursday, Feb. 5, at the Foley Civic Center. That preview runs from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for Friends of the Foley Public Library members. The main sale opens to the public on Friday, Feb. 6, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and continues Saturday, Feb. 7, from 9 a.m. to noon.

On Saturday, shoppers can take advantage of a bag deal that has become one of the event's biggest draws. Participants will be able to fill a Tanger shopping bag with books for just 5 dollars. Volunteers said the offer encourages people to try new authors and subjects while still keeping costs low.

The Friends group stresses that every purchase helps the community. The sale is a fundraiser for the Foley Public Library, with all proceeds supporting the library and related literacy projects. The nonprofit Friends of Foley Public Library works year-round to generate funding for programs, materials, and other services that benefit local residents.

Inside the Civic Center, shoppers will find far more than just novels. The annual sale features thousands of books as well as hundreds of music CDs and DVDs. Tables will also hold an assortment of other media, including audiobooks, CD-ROMs, vinyl records, and cassettes.

The materials are sorted and displayed by category to make browsing easier for visitors. Hardbacks and paperbacks in excellent condition are organized into sections such as science fiction, art, children’s, pop fiction, cooking, history, biography, and large-format photo books. All items are marked down, selling for a fraction of typical retail prices.

Membership in the Friends organization gives bibliophiles early access to the best selection. The preview sale on Feb. 5 is open only to members, but memberships will be available at the door. An annual membership costs 10 dollars for an individual and 15 dollars for a family, and also supports the group’s ongoing work for the library.

Organizers say the sale is also a social event that brings together people who care about books and education. Long rows of tables fill the Foley Civic Center's main hall, giving shoppers space to browse, compare titles, and swap recommendations. The Civic Center is located at 407 E. Laurel Avenue (U.S. 98) in Foley.
