Orange Beach Library Adds New Health Resource For Residents
American Heart Association Launches Blood Pressure Kit Checkout Program At Orange Beach Public Library

Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — The American Heart Association has launched a new health program at the Orange Beach Public Library. The initiative is called Libraries with Heart and is designed to help residents monitor their blood pressure at home. Community partners say the effort will give people easier access to important health tools. Organizers hope the program will support healthier habits across the county.
The ribbon cutting for the first Libraries with Heart site in Baldwin County is scheduled at Orange Beach Public Library on Monday, December 8 at 1:30 p.m. Local leaders and supporters are invited to attend the event as the program officially begins. The Orange Beach location is the first library in Baldwin County to offer this service to patrons. It represents a new partnership between the library, the American Heart Association, and local sponsors. The sponsor for the Orange Beach program is Bella Beach Properties, LLC.
Through the Libraries with Heart initiative, blood pressure kits are now available for check-out at the Orange Beach Public Library. Each kit includes a validated blood pressure monitor that patrons can use at home. The kits also contain instructions so users can follow clear steps when taking their readings. Additional resources are included to explain what the numbers mean and how to manage blood pressure over time.
High blood pressure is a leading risk factor for heart disease in Alabama, according to the American Heart Association. Health experts say that many people may not realize they have high blood pressure because it often has no obvious symptoms. Regular monitoring can help catch problems earlier and guide conversations with doctors. The new library program is meant to make that monitoring more convenient and affordable.
The American Heart Association said the goal is to remove barriers that keep people from checking their blood pressure. By placing the kits in a public library, the group hopes to reach residents who might not own a monitor at home. “Through this initiative, blood pressure kits are now available for check-out — complete with a validated monitor, instructions, and resources to help you manage your health,” the organization stated in announcing the program.
Local support has played a key role in bringing the effort to Orange Beach. The ribbon cutting and the Libraries with Heart program at the Orange Beach Public Library are locally sponsored by Bella Beach Properties, LLC. The company’s support helps cover the cost of the blood pressure kits and the educational materials. Community leaders say such partnerships can strengthen public health efforts at the local level.
The American Heart Association emphasized why this work is especially important in the state. “High blood pressure is a leading risk factor for heart disease in Alabama, and together, we’re making it easier to take control,” the group noted. By checking out a kit from the library, residents can watch their numbers over days or weeks. That information can then be shared with health care providers to guide treatment decisions.
The Orange Beach Public Library will serve as a central location for residents who want to try the new resource. Library patrons can borrow the blood pressure kits just as they would check out a book or other materials. Staff will direct visitors to the program and explain how to access the kits. The location in Orange Beach also makes the service convenient for both full-time residents and seasonal visitors.
Supporters of the program say the Libraries with Heart initiative shows how everyday community spaces can promote health. Libraries are already trusted places where people go to learn and find helpful information. Adding blood pressure kits builds on that role by offering a simple tool for heart health. The American Heart Association hopes this first Baldwin County site will encourage more communities to join the effort in the future.
