Backcountry Trail Hosts 100 Miles Fitness Push In Orange Beach
The 100 Alabama Miles program asks people to move more in any way they choose.

Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — An outdoor fitness event in Orange Beach invites residents to get moving and explore nature while participating in a statewide challenge. The City of Orange Beach and the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail are partnering to host a local kickoff for the 100 Alabama Miles Challenge. This initiative aims to inspire people of all ages to be more active by walking, running, biking, and engaging in other activities year-round. Organizers state that the event is open to everyone in the community, including families, visitors, and beginners who are just starting their exercise routines.
The kickoff event will be held at the Hugh S. Branyon Backcountry Trail Sportsplex Trailhead, located at 4385 William Silvers Parkway in Orange Beach. It is scheduled for Saturday, April 25, 2026, with activities starting at 8 a.m. The event is open to the public, so anyone can attend, regardless of whether they follow the trail on social media.
The 100 Alabama Miles Challenge is a statewide program that encourages people to complete 100 miles of physical activity each year. Participants can choose how to move, including walking, running, hiking, biking, swimming, paddling, riding, or rolling on trails, streets, and waterways. Local leaders hope the Orange Beach event will help residents start their 2026 mileage while enjoying the scenery along the backcountry trail system.
Free T-shirts and stickers will be available at the trailhead while supplies last, providing an extra incentive to arrive early. Organizers say the giveaways are meant to reward participants and foster a sense of team spirit among those taking part in the challenge.
Since the program began in 2018, people across Alabama have logged more than 329,000 miles, reflecting a strong interest in staying active outdoors. Event organizers want to build on that momentum this year and encourage even more miles from residents.
The city and trail staff invite friends, families, and neighbors to join them for the kickoff event and to continue logging miles afterward. They describe the challenge as an easy way to set a fitness goal, spend time outdoors, and connect with others on the trail. As stated in the event notice, participants are encouraged to “bring your friends and family and start your journey with us on the trail. We look forward to seeing you there!”
