Foley Planning Commission to Address Southwood Arbor Walk Extension Request

Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – Construction continues on the new Tractor Supply in Foley on the east side of State Route 59 and south of Dairy Queen. During the Oct. 9 work session and Oct. 16 regular session, the Foley Planning Commission will address signs for the new store once construction is completed.
Tractor Supply is requesting approval of the store’s master signage located south of Keller Road and east of State Route 59. Staff will recommend approval. The commission will meet at 4 p.m. on both dates in council chambers in city hall.
During the meetings, the commission will discuss:
- Giving a preliminary extension for the Magnolia Pines subdivision located east of County Road 55 and south of Rhodes Lane in the city’s planning jurisdiction. It contains 19.82 acres and 84 lots and staff will give a favorable recommendation.
- Extending the preliminary approval for one year for Southwood at Arbor Walk phases one through three consisting of 77.82 acres and 183 lots. It is located east of County Road 65 and north of County Road 12 South and staff will recommend approval.
- Giving a one-year preliminary extension for Bayou Ridge Estates consisting of 23.89 acres and 50 lots located west of State Route 59 and south of County Road 10 in the city’s planning jurisdiction. Staff will recommend approval.
- Re-subdividing lots one and two of Hightower located east of Woodland Avenue and north of Hightower Drive in the city’s planning jurisdiction. It consists of 3.48 acres and two lots and staff will recommend approval.
- A request to approve a minor subdivision in the Sicilian Syndicate consisting of 2.5 acres and two lots. It is located north of Engel Lane and east of County Road 55 in the city’s planning jurisdiction. Staff will recommend approval.
- Approval for a minor subdivision for the Schlichting Family Subdivision consisting of 13.54 acres and two lots located at the southwest corner of U.S. 98 and the Foley Beach Express. Staff recommends postponing this item indefinitely while legal matters are worked out.
- Setting a public hearing to study a Transportation Continuity Plan.
- A parcel of land located on Pastoral Lane. No other information was on this item on the agenda. This one is for the work session only.
- Proposed amendments to the zoning ordinance. No other information was on this item on the agenda.

The 6-foot-6 player had a standout day during a visit to The University of Alabama. His skills and work ethic caught the attention of head coach Nate Oats and his coaching staff. Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — High school students from across Baldwin County are getting a chance to learn how local government works. They will do this through a new internship program with the city of Foley. This is the first time Foley has offered this opportunity. The city introduced the first group of interns at the City Council meeting on Monday, June 2.

Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALES) is reporting that an Orange Beach woman died after a two-vehicle crash late Wednesday morning near Foley. The accident happened on South Hickory Street near Baldwin County 20. The ALEA said the crash involved a Chevrolet pickup and a Jeep SUV. Troopers are still investigating the cause of the crash.
