Orange Beach Police Investigate Theft Of Boat Motors
Eight outboard motors and several parts were taken in a well-planned theft.

Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — Late Sunday night, a group of thieves stole eight outboard motors and several lower units from Jones Canvas Storage in Orange Beach, located at 27011 Canal Road, Orange Beach. Investigators say the theft occurred overnight and appeared carefully planned. The suspects worked through the night and showed knowledge of the site. Authorities believe the thieves knew exactly what they were doing.
According to officials, the break-in occurred sometime between Sunday night and early Monday morning, January 18 to January 19. The suspects backed a vehicle up to the property’s fence and then cut an opening to enter the storage area. Once inside, they used a forklift found on-site to move and load the stolen motors.
“This was organized and deliberate, not a quick hit,” said David Jones from Jones Canvas Storage. Photos of two vehicles believed to have been involved have been shared online in hopes of identifying them. Investigators are asking the public to look closely at any similar items listed for sale online.
Authorities are urging residents to report any suspicious activity related to the theft. That includes ads for used outboard motors, people operating forklifts at unusual hours, or vehicles and trailers seen in the area late Sunday night. “Even small details help,” the spokesperson said, emphasizing the importance of community awareness.
Anyone who spots these motors or notices suspicious listings is encouraged to contact Orange Beach Police at (251) 981-9777 or Jones Canvas & Storage at (251) 981-9407. The theft has raised concern among local boaters, many of whom are sharing the alert on social media to help recover the stolen property. “This affects all of us in the boating community,” the post read, thanking those helping to keep watch.
