The Wharf Awards Scholarships To Two Local High School Graduates
Graduates recognized for leadership, service, and strong academics

Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — The Wharf in Orange Beach has awarded scholarships to two graduating seniors, continuing a program that highlights academic achievement and community service. The awards recognize students who have balanced academic work with leadership and volunteer efforts. This year’s recipients include a top scholar and a runner-up. Both students plan to attend college in the fall.
On May 8, 2026, as part of the program’s sixth year, the announcement was made. The Wharf Scholarship supports Baldwin County seniors who demonstrate strong dedication to education and community involvement. Applications for the next round will open in January 2027.
Portia Hollis, a Gulf Shores High School graduate, received the top $10,000 scholarship. She plans to attend Samford University and double major in Corporate Communications and Musical Theatre. Her long-term goal is to become a spokesperson for a nonprofit organization.
“The Wharf is proud to continue our scholarship program for the sixth year,” said Kristen Hammack, management team leader at The Wharf. “Portia embodies the qualities of an outstanding student, and we take pride in recognizing her achievements and active participation.”
Hollis has spent much of her high school career volunteering with local nonprofits and participating in school activities. She is a member of the National Honor Society and has received the Distinguished Dolphin Award. She has also earned the AmeriCorps Presidential Volunteer Service Award twice for completing more than 100 hours of service.
Her achievements extend beyond volunteering. Hollis received the Distinguished Young Women of Alabama Community Service Award. She was also recognized by the cities of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach for organizing Healthcare Appreciation Week. Governor Kay Ivey honored her with a Certificate of Recognition for her statewide work.
In addition, Hollis is a published author who has performed in several musical theatre productions. Her work reflects a strong interest in both the arts and leadership, helping set her apart from other applicants.
The Wharf also named Dallas Wyatt the 2026 runner-up and awarded him a $2,500 scholarship. Wyatt is graduating from Snook Christian Academy. He has balanced academics with varsity football and basketball, as well as volunteer work through his school’s Booster Club and his church.
Wyatt plans to attend the University of South Alabama, where he will major in Electrical Engineering. His involvement in athletics and service helped him stand out among applicants.
Program leaders said this year’s applicants demonstrated a high level of commitment to both school and community. Organizers noted that many students demonstrated strong leadership while remaining active in volunteer efforts.
The scholarship program is part of The Wharf’s broader effort to support education and to invest in future leaders. Additional information about the program and other initiatives is available on
The Wharf’s website.
