Families are invited to celebrate reading with a full week of stories, crafts, and activities

Foley Public Library

Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — Families in Foley will have several chances to celebrate reading when the Foley Public Library hosts Read Across America Week. Children and their parents are invited to enjoy special storytimes, crafts, and other activities. Library staff says the goal is to make reading exciting and fun for people of all ages. The week will also include contests and daily themes to keep young readers engaged.

Read Across America Week at the Foley Public Library will take place from March 2 to 7. Each day’s events aim to encourage children to pick up a book, listen to a story, and spend time reading at home. Organizers hope that the week of activities will help families develop lasting reading habits.

Every morning during the celebration, guest readers from the community will lead a special Storytime starting at 10 a.m. Local visitors will share books and stories while children listen and participate in the program. The library will also host craft events related to the stories, giving kids a chance to create something inspired by what they have heard.

Throughout the week, children can participate in Dr. Seuss-inspired dress-up days designed to bring color and laughter to the library. Each themed day allows young readers to wear fun outfits that capture the spirit of the celebration. Library leaders say the costumes are an easy way to make reading feel like a party.

Young patrons will also have the chance to showcase their creativity through the Bookmark Challenge. Children can decorate a bookmark in the library’s children’s area and then submit it at the circulation desk. The contest provides kids with another way to express their imagination and share their love of books.

The Foley Public Library is also bringing back its Reader Zone Reading Challenge during Read Across America Week. Children who log 20 minutes of reading each day will earn a prize for their efforts. Staff members hope the rewards will encourage children to continue reading even after the special week ends.

Residents seeking more information about Read Across America Week can visit the library’s online calendar of events. There, they will find details on daily themes, dress-up ideas, and activities for families to review. Additional updates are available by contacting the Foley Public Library directly or visiting the library’s
website and/or Facebook page.
