Planning Commission To Consider Retail Expansion And Subdivision Requests
Agenda includes commercial construction and residential plat approvals

Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – A site plan review before the Gulf Shores Planning Commission will consider adding commercial buildings and a warehouse in the area of Standard Furniture in Gulf Shores. The property is located on the west side of State Route 59, across from the Pelican Place shopping center.
The commission will take up a request from Sawgrass Consulting on the new buildings at its February meeting on Jan. 24 at 4 p.m. in council chambers at City Hall.
“The applicant requests site plan approval to construct three 6,000-square-foot commercial buildings and one 3,500-square-foot warehouse building,” a memo from City Planner Andy Bauer states. “The subject property is currently developed with the Royal Standard retail building and parking. The storage buildings behind the Royal Standard were recently demolished.”
The proposed uses fit the current zoning, and staff will recommend approval with recommendations, including $19,510 in lieu of a sidewalk along State Route 59 in front of the property.
During the meeting, the commission will also discuss:
- A one-year extension of the Osprey Landing subdivision phase 4 preliminary plat on the south side of Coastal Gateway Boulevard and west of phases two and three of development. This phase contains 42 lots. Staff will recommend approval with conditions.
- Approving the final plat of a subdivision of lot seven in Colonial Grand into two lots. Another request is to subdivide lot seven into 43 single-family lots on Traditional Way. Staff will approve both with conditions.
