If seafood's not your fare, these tasty burgers will tide you over

(OBA®) – Orange Beach, AL – This is the second installment on great burgers found on the Alabama-Florida Gulf Coast. The coast is not only a paradise of natural beauty, it’s also known for its fabulous restaurants and variety of fresh seafood dishes all across the coastal area.


But if seafood is not exactly your fare, it’s also fast-becoming known for its cheeseburgers in paradise as well. Several places, some well-known already, some new to the scene and some hole in the wall joints are crafting awesome burgers from homestyle to fancy to just downright unique.


And tasty. The OBA Community Website decided to take a look at the burgers available on the Gulf Coast and you’ll probably find one you really like or learn about one you didn’t know existed and want to try. You can show your favorite burger some love by voting here


And here we go.


THE HANGOUT


This beachfront restaurant offers six burgers including a traditional Hang 10 and a mushroom-swiss option. The Lifeguard is a load with two half-pound patties with cheddar and pepper jack cheese, fried onion straws, fried egg, thick bacon and Monarch fried pickles. Also available are the Alabama Wagyu with locally raised beef and traditional toppings, the Shaka Burger topped with fried shrimp, remoulade shaka cheese sauce and traditional toppings. If you’re looking for a smoky taste, try the Bama BBQ Burger with sweet sauce, cheddar, coleslaw and onion straws.


SUNLINER DINER


The Hangout’s sister restaurant offers up six burger choices including The Jukebox with three burger patties, topped with American, Swiss and cheddar cheese, bacon, fried green tomato, onion ring, fried egg, and fried pickles. Drizzled with our creole hollandaise on a buttered brioche bun. Other offerings include The Sunliner Burger with two patties, bacon and cheddar A stack of two griddled burger patties, bacon and cheddar cheese on a buttered brioche bun, The Classic, The Double, The Barnyard Burger and the Avocado Burger. All come with fries on a brioche bun.


PICNIC BEACH


Another member of the Hangout Hospitality family, Picnic Beach concentrates on great barbecue but also offers the Classic Burger and the Bison BBQ Burger with mustard BBQ sauce and fried onions. Both come with either fries or coleslaw.


THE GULF


This restaurant with stunning views of Perdido Pass has two burger offerings, The Gulf and the Gulf Double which has an extra patty. Both come with American cheese, lettuce, tomato on a brioche bun with garlic aioli.


LIVE BAIT


The Live Bait Burger comes with onion ring, fried pickle, fried egg, country sausage, diced applewood smoked bacon, American, Swiss and cheddar cheese, onion, lettuce, pickle, and tomato with three patties drizzled in our homemade creamy beurre blanc. The Smoked Gouda & Bacon Jam burger is topped with homemade bacon jam, smoked shredded Gouda cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles and a simple Angus burger comes with traditional topping options, all are served on a sourdough bun.


COTTON’S


A burger out for Cotton’s but they are known for having fantastic steaks and seafood, signature sides and all salad dressings and sauces are house-made.


WOLF BAY LODGE


Wolf Bay Lodge, now open in the new Orange Beach location as well as Foley and Perdido Key, has a choice of five burgers including a maui burger with American cheese, grilled pineapple and carmelized onions. Other options are a bacon brie burger with black pepper bacon and chipotle aioli, the Wolf Bay Burger with angus beef, traditional cheeseburger and a BBQ Cheddar Burger with smoky sauce and a fried onion ring. The Maui Burger and Brie Burger are available only at Orange Beach. All come with fries or fruit.


BUBBA’S SEAFOOD HOUSE


Bubba’s offers a cheeseburger or double cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato and pickles on a Kaiser roll and served with fries and coleslaw.


BON TEMPS POBOYS AND SPECIALTY MEATS


Bon Temps has three burgers on the menu but the simple good ol’ The Merica is as good a burger as you’ll find. Just the basics of cheese, mustard, ketchup, mayo pickles, lettuce, tomatoes and onions with a dash of Cajun spices to give it a slight hint of heat. One burger you hear being ordered a lot at lunch is the Ragin’ Cajun Burger with an all-beef patty, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, candied jalapenos and mayo. Another option is the Hangover Burger which has American cheese, lettuce, tomato, homemade jalapeno mayo and a fried egg.


DOC’S SEAFOOD SHACK AND OYSTER BAR

DOC’S SEAFOOD AND STEAKS


At either Doc’s location, everything is simple but delicious so the same with the burger. Add cheese to traditional toppings of lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles or really go all out and get the double cheeseburger. It comes with fries.


HAZEL’S NOOK


The Nook is part of the Doc’s family and has been for many years. Get you a traditional grilled burger with cheese and add bacon for two bucks. Fries come with it.


MOE’S ORIGINAL BAR-B-QUE


Burgers aren’t on the menu every day but Saturday the special is smoked bacon cheeseburgers done up in Moe’s smokers and come with a choice of a side of house chips, mac and cheese, potato salad, marinated slaw, banana pudding or oreo pudding. Other soul sides change daily and are available with the burger as well.


YABBA’S WACKY SNACK SHACK


Yabba’s may be known for sweets and a great variety of candies but don’t overlook the five burger selections including a classic burger, cheeseburger, patty melt, bacon cheeseburger and jalapeno pimento cheeseburger with bacon, lettuce, tomato, red onion and pickles all five on brioche buns. Add a drink and a side item for $2.49.


MIKEE’S SEAFOOD


Mikee’s is mostly about seafood as the name implies but land lubbers can get a different take on a burger that’s topped with sauteed scallions, mushrooms and melted mozzarella. It comes with fries.

New Halo Lights to Brighten Foley Streets

The new lights will help make the area more welcoming and easier to walk through at night. They are part of a larger plan to improve lighting around town. Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — An Orange Beach man drowned in south Alabama Sunday afternoon, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency. Dewayne Stephens, 55, of Orange Beach, was identified as the man who lost his life.
City of Foley Firefighters Praised for High Performance

Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — Fire protection in Foley has gotten better over the past few years, even though firefighters are answering more calls than before. A national study showed that the city's fire service has improved. Mayor Ralph Hellmich said the higher score proves Foley’s firefighters are doing a great job under growing pressure. He credited Chief Joey Darby and the entire department for their work in keeping the community safe.
Full Moon Paddle Returns to Orange Beach Friday

The event is open to the public and features a mix of paddling, live music, and food. Guests will enjoy a unique experience under the moonlight while supporting a good cause. All proceeds benefit the Baldwin County Child Advocacy Center.

Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — The Foley Police Department is investigating a burglary that happened overnight at the Tanger Outlet Mall. An employee at Zales Outlet called the police around 8:30 a.m. Monday. They reported that jewelry had been stolen during the night. The value of the stolen items has not been released.
Mini Golf Planned for Bubba’s Seafood House Property

Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — A group of four people is planning a new mini-golf course at the site of longtime Bubba’s Seafood House on beach road. John Pilcher, Jody Pilcher, Mary Pilcher and Emmie Pilcher Flowers are making the request. According to Baldwin County tax records, the group owns six parcels fronting the road east of Fat Daddy’s. They will request changes to a previously submitted site plan.
