(OBA®) – Orange Beach, AL – The Alabama-Florida is not only a paradise of natural beauty, it’s also known for its fabulous restaurants and variety of fresh seafood dishes all across the coastal area.


But if seafood is not exactly your fare, it’s also fast-becoming known for its cheeseburgers in paradise as well. Several places, some well-known already, some new to the scene and some hole in the wall joints are crafting awesome burgers from homestyle to fancy to just downright unique.


And tasty. The OBA Community Website decided to take a look at the burgers available on the Gulf Coast and you’ll probably find one you really like or learn about one you didn’t know existed and want to try. Here we go.


FLORA-BAMA PROPERTIES


The Bama, and lots of places, offer a build your own burger option based with a char-grilled patty and served open faced on a Brioche bun. Pick from with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles. Make it your own with mushrooms, jalapenos and bacon and it’s topped with both Swiss and cheddar cheese. It comes with fries. The Flora-Bama Yacht Club and Flora-Bama Ole River Grill have the same options on their menus.


TACKY JACKS


At the Orange Beach location, they start with two quarter pound burger balls – hand smashed and griddle flashed. It comes on a fresh butter toasted bun with lettuce, tomato, American cheese, fries & chips. You can add cheddar, Swiss, jack or bleu cheeses and onions and pickles. You can also get sautéed mushrooms, sautéed onions, smoked bacon or jalapeños but that cost extra. Tacky Jacks Gulf Shores and Tacky Jacks Fort Morgan offer the same options.


COSMO’S RESTAURANT AND BAR


The burger is a gourmet blend of certified Angus beef including ground chuck, short rib and brisket, chargrilled and served on a toasted sourdough bun with lettuce, tomato and red onion. Cheese will cost you a buck, add bacon for $1.50. Sister restaurant GT’s on the Bay has the same burger offering with a choice of a side.


COBALT THE RESTAURANT


Behold the Cobalt Beast Burger with a blend of elk, wild boar, wagyu and bison blackened and topped with bleu cheese, bacon and caramelized onions. Served on a brioche bun with garlic aioli. Cobalt also has a build your own burger option that comes with a gourmet blend of certified Angus beef ground chuck, short rib and brisket, hand patted and grilled. Served on a toasted sourdough bun with crisp romaine, tomatoes and red onions. You can add avocado, sauteed mushrooms or applewood smoked bacon for an extra $1.50. For a buck you can add American, Swiss, smoked gouda, provolone, bleu, caramelized onions, fried onion rings or fresh sliced jalapeño. It comes with a choice of a side.


LUNA’S EAT AND DRINK


Luna’s has the same burger offering as Cosmo’s and GT’s on the Bay, but also, with an extensive on-tap beer selection, has a beer basted burger on a sweet sourdough bun with Luna's beer mustard, fried onions and Luna's beer cheese. You can add American, Swiss, provolone, bleu cheese, housemade dill pickles, pimento, housemade B&B pickles, jalapeños or roasted garlic aioli for a buck each or applewood smoked bacon for $1.50. The do-it-yourselfer is the gourmet blend of Certified Angus Beef® ground chuck, brisket and short rib, hand patted and served on a toasted sourdough bun dressed with lettuce, tomato and red onion with fries.


BRICK AND SPOON


Brick and Spoon on Canal Road has three burger choices. The Brick & Spoon Cheeseburger comes with your choice of four cheeses and house aioli. The Bacon Cali Burger has pecan-smoked bacon, avocado, pepper jack and house aioli. The Patty Melt comes with sauteed onions and mushrooms, house aioli, Monterrey cheese on a sourdough bread. All come with fries and you can add an egg, bacon, grill onions, jalapeno, avocado or mushroom for an extra charge.


LULU’S


LuLu’s two offerings are seasoned with LuLu's Salty Peppa Seasoning Blend and include the “Pa-menna” cheese with bacon and a fried green tomato. The Crazy Sista burger has lettuce, tomato, red onion, sweet pickles and a choice of cheese Both are served with fries and you can add sauteed onions or mushrooms or jalapenos for a buck or bacon, guacamole or a fried green tomato for two bucks.


PERDIDO KEY SPORTS BAR AND RESTAURANT


The Sports Bar has a choice of 10 burgers offerings include the Black and Bleu which comes with a half-pound steak burger topped with bleu cheese crumbles and dressing with lettuce, tomato, onion and pickles. All burgers are a half pound except the cheeseburger sliders and all come with a choice of fries, potato salad or slaw.


RUBY SLIPPER


This fabulous brunch stop won the island’s best burger contest a few years ago. It comes with cheddar, lettuce, tomato, pickles, bacon and onion jam and comes with a side of fries.


TIKI BAR AT SAFE HARBOR SPORTSMAN


This burger is a third of a pound patty with a choice of cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles and onions. Add grilled onions, pineapple, mushrooms or jalapeno for 75 cents or bacon for a buck. It comes with fries, for $2 more you can substitute onion rings.


DE SOTO’S SEAFOOD KITCHEN


Seafood and other specialty entrees are the bread and butter for De Soto’s but if you’re craving a burger try theirs with a choice of cheese, lettuce, tomato, mayo and pickles. It comes with a choice of two sides.


VOYAGERS


This is a fine dining spot in the Perdido Beach Resort and if you’re craving beef try one of their signature steaks. There are seven choices and all steaks are dry aged for a minimum of 35 days.


LATTITUDE 30


Your burger craving can be satisfied at Perdido Beach Resort’s other restaurant with a Double Bacon Burger made from short rib and chuck with American Cheese, pickle, bacon lettuce, tomato and onion on a brioche bun. The Beach Bar offers a double angus patty with lettuce, tomato, onion and a choice of cheese. Add bacon for a buck and both come with fries.
