Superintendent and board members visit campuses to surprise four dedicated employees

Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — Orange Beach City Schools officials visited campuses to deliver big news to four employees. The district leaders surprised these staff members with top honors for their hard work. Superintendent Randy Wilkes and board members joined the celebration to recognize their dedication. It was a day filled with excitement and well-deserved praise.


The surprise announcements took place yesterday, December 9, 2025. The group traveled to different schools to name the Teachers and Staff Members of the Year. These winners will be formally honored at the Legacy Awards Banquet. That event is scheduled for January 29, 2026, at the Perdido Beach Resort.


Janna Bradford was named the Elementary Teacher of the Year. She teaches fourth-grade math at Orange Beach Elementary School. Her teaching style is described as calm and patient. Students in her class achieved the number one ACAP math scores in the entire state of Alabama.


Beyond test scores, Bradford is known for her caring heart. She builds strong relationships with her students. She also spends her afternoons tutoring at Expect Excellence. She connects with families in the evenings to ensure every child succeeds. Her dedication to the community is truly remarkable.


Grace Stanton received the title of Secondary Teacher of the Year. She serves as the Theatre Director at Orange Beach Middle and High School. Stanton inspires her students with creativity and passion. She works hard to make sure every student feels supported in her classroom.


Students say she "helps everyone do their best, whether they are onstage or working behind the scenes." Coworkers call her "a strong leader who turns ideas into great performances." Families also appreciate her efforts. They say she "makes theater feel like a home for every student."


The Elementary Staff Member of the Year is Elizabeth Wood. She works as a Special Education Paraprofessional at the elementary school. Wood is known for treating every student like her own child. She is always willing to help wherever she is needed most.


She often says, "Put me where you need me!" Her coworkers value her flexibility and positive attitude. Wood brings joy and compassion to the special education department. Her calming presence helps children feel loved and important. She is a dependable support for the whole school.


Rachel Pettiway was named the Secondary Staff Member of the Year. She is the bookkeeper at Orange Beach Middle and High School. Pettiway is recognized for her steady professionalism. She maintains a positive attitude while helping others. She is an essential part of the school family.


Teachers at the school say she "keeps our school running smoothly every single day." They describe her as "the person we can always count on." Staff members also mention that she "handles every task with patience and kindness." She makes everyone feel valued.


The district is proud of these four outstanding individuals. Their hard work makes a huge difference for students and families. The community looks forward to celebrating them further in January. Orange Beach City Schools appreciates the excellence they bring to the schools every day.
