Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – In response to the updated severe weather forecasts predicting earlier arrival of potentially dangerous conditions, Orange Beach City Schools has announced an early dismissal today for the safety of its students and staff. The National Weather Service's briefing this morning highlighted the heightened risk of damaging winds, reaching up to 80 miles per hour, and the potential for tornadoes in the area by 2 p.m., two hours earlier than previously expected. As a precaution, middle and high school students will be dismissed at noon, followed by elementary school students at 12:15 PM. The district has also cancelled all after-school programs for the day, including the "Expect Excellence" activities, to ensure the well-being of everyone involved. Lunch will be provided prior to the students' departure, and the schools are coordinating to address the logistical needs of families, particularly concerning transportation and the care of younger students. Orange Beach City Schools anticipates a return to its regular schedule by Thursday, prioritizing the community's safety in the face of the forecasted severe weather conditions.

Gulf Shores City Schools also closed early today, due to weather forecasts.

From Orange Beach City Schools:

Dear Parents,

As many of you know, the predicted speed of the storms increased overnight, and now potentially inclement weather is expected to be in the area at 2 p.m., not 4 p.m. Additionally, the National Weather Service’s briefing at 8:00 a.m. this morning stated that damaging winds up to 80 miles per hour and tornadoes are anticipated.

Out of an abundance of caution, we are dismissing the middle/high school at noon and the elementary school at 12:15 PM today, noting that middle/high bus riders may need to arrive home before younger siblings or pick up younger siblings from the elementary school. All after-school-related activities are canceled, including “Expect Excellence.” Lunch will be served before departure. We apologize for any inconvenience.

We expect to return to normalcy on Thursday.
