Foley, Ala. — (OBA) —  The Foley Community Library opens today in a brand-new building at 230 E. Orange Ave. The new center is a major upgrade for the city, offering significantly more space and modern features. The $20 million facility spans about 40,000 square feet — twice the size of the old library. Foley officials will hold an opening ceremony at 10 a.m. to mark the occasion.

The new library officially opens today, Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026, with activities running from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. During those hours, visitors are invited to explore the building, take part in a scavenger-hunt raffle, and enjoy activities in each meeting space. The building features amenities not available at the old location.

The new center includes a sensory room, separate activity areas for children and teens, and a STEAM-STEM lab. A large multipurpose room seats up to 277 people. The building also features a second-story porch overlooking the Perry Wilbourne Antique Rose Trail and the city's Dog Park.

One of the highlights of the new library is the Children's Story Grove, a special area for young readers. Pop-up story time and crafts are scheduled there at 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 3 p.m. as part of the Children's Grand Opening celebration. Young visitors can also head to the Maker Meadow for hands-on craft activities.

Children can enter a bookmark contest running from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today. The winners will be announced the following week. The contest gives young library visitors a chance to showcase their creativity on opening day.

The old library building, located next to City Hall on East Laurel Avenue, closed when the move to the new center was completed. Once the new library is up and running, the former building will be renovated for other city uses. The old location had been home to the Foley Community Library since 1984.
