NEST Fest Celebrates Nature and Music on Bird Island

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – Orange Beach is set to host the inaugural NEST Fest on May 25th from 11am to 3pm on Bird Island. This event aims to blend recreation with conservation, promoting awareness for native, migrating, and nesting shorebirds. Organized by City of Orange Beach Coastal Resources Division and funded by the National Audubon Society, NEST Fest will be a day filled with educational activities, live music, and community engagement.

Live Music by The Wrong Terns

The festival will feature live music by the band "The Wrong Terns," providing a lively backdrop to the day's activities. The band's performance will create a festive atmosphere, making the event enjoyable for all ages.


Conservation-Based Activities and Games

NEST Fest will offer various conservation-based activities and games designed to educate the public about local shorebird species and their habitats. These interactive activities aim to engage attendees in learning about the importance of protecting these birds and their nesting areas.


Collaborative Efforts

The event is a collaborative effort involving several conservation organizations. The City of Orange Beach, Coastal Resources Division (OBCR), dedicated to preserving and enhancing the coastal environment of Orange Beach, is the organizer of this event. Ducks Unlimited, known for its extensive work in wetlands and waterfowl conservation, will be participating, bringing their expertise and resources to the festival. The Gulf State Park, with its rich biodiversity and commitment to environmental sustainability, will also be a key participant, offering insights into local ecosystems and conservation practices. The National Audubon Society, along with the State of Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources fund the Coastal Stewardship Coordinator’s position with the City of Orange Beach Coastal Resources Department. Ducks Unlimited

Ducks Unlimited (DU) is the world's largest and most effective private waterfowl and wetlands conservation organization. Established in 1937, DU has conserved more than 15.5 million acres of habitat across North America. Their participation in NEST Fest underscores their commitment to protecting shorebird habitats and educating the public about conservation efforts.


Gulf State Park

The Alabama Gulf State Park is renowned for its diverse ecosystems and extensive trail system. The park's involvement in NEST Fest highlights its role in promoting environmental education and sustainable outdoor recreation in our coastal environment.

Mini Golf Planned for Bubba’s Seafood House Property

Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — A group of four people is planning a new mini-golf course at the site of longtime Bubba’s Seafood House on beach road. John Pilcher, Jody Pilcher, Mary Pilcher and Emmie Pilcher Flowers are making the request. According to Baldwin County tax records, the group owns six parcels fronting the road east of Fat Daddy’s. They will request changes to a previously submitted site plan.
