Gulf Shores to Host S'mores on the Shore at Gulf Place Next Week
The free annual back-to-school event features s'mores, face painting, a live DJ, local vendors, and watermelon on the beach
Gulf Shores, Ala. — (OBA) — The City of Gulf Shores is once again rolling out the campfires and s'mores for one of its longest-running summer traditions. S'mores on the Shore is returning to Gulf Place, drawing families, residents, and out-of-town visitors to the Alabama Gulf Coast for a free evening of food, music, and activities. The event is hosted by the city's Recreation & Cultural Affairs Department. Admission is free and open to the public.
The event is scheduled for Thursday, August 6, 2026, beginning at 6 p.m. at Gulf Place, located at 101 Gulf Shores Parkway. Attendees will find a packed lineup of free activities when they arrive. The festivities will be held directly on the sands of the Gulf Shores Public Beach.
Free s'mores packets will be handed out throughout the evening, giving families a chance to enjoy the campfire experience right on the beach. A live DJ will provide music, while a balloon artist and a face painter will keep younger guests entertained. Wheeles Realty, a returning sponsor, will once again provide fresh, free watermelon for the crowd.
Several local organizations will have booths at the event. The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo, Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Tourism, and the Gulf Shores Police Department K9 Division are expected to participate. The Hog Wild food truck and the Lions Club will also be on-site for guests who want to buy food. City officials are encouraging attendees to bring blankets, chairs, and friends to settle in for the night.
Recreation & Cultural Affairs Director Grant Brown said the event has built a loyal following since its launch. "We started S'mores on the Shore in 2010, and it quickly became a fan favorite among our residents and guests," Brown said. "It's the perfect event for families of all ages seeking a little free fun and excitement."
Brown said the setting plays a major role in making the night special. "When you combine our beautiful beaches, music, campfires, and s'mores, it really does make for an incredible night," he said. The event has now been running for more than 15 years and continues to grow its community each summer.
