Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – Gulf Shores is taking a step forward for educational development in the region. The City of Gulf Shores, in partnership with Gulf Shores City Schools, is set to begin a new chapter with the groundbreaking ceremony of the Gulf Shores High School. Scheduled for April 26 at 10 a.m., the ceremony marks the commencement of construction for the new facility designed to accommodate and enrich the learning experiences of 1,000 students. Set to take place at 21656 Coastal Gateway Blvd, Gulf Shores, AL, this event signifies a pivotal moment in supporting the city's growth and educational innovation. Gulf Shores High School Map for Groundbreaking Ceremony

From Gulf Shores City Schools: The City of Gulf Shores in collaboration with Gulf Shores City Schools is excited to announce the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Gulf Shores High School. The event will take place on April 26 at 10 a.m. at the construction site located at 21656 Coastal Gateway Blvd, Gulf Shores, AL, at the corner of Coastal Gateway Boulevard (County Road 8) and the Foley Beach Express.


The new Gulf Shores High School will accommodate 1,000 students with the opportunity for future expansion and provide state-of-the-art facilities designed for collaborative and hands-on learning experiences for our students while supporting the continued growth of our city. Students will be immersed in leading-edge technology labs for engineering, bio-medical, marine biology, culinary, music production and finance, as well as maker spaces, greenhouses, outdoor learning centers, and a broadcast studio.


Band, choral, art, and theatre students will hone their skills in dedicated spaces connected to an advanced visual and performing arts center, including a costume design lab, a set production workshop, a greenroom, and an auditorium hosting school and community events throughout the year.


A new Dolphin athletics center will be home to all sports, including two gymnasiums, tiered meeting rooms, athletic training rooms, an athletic performance center, and a covered practice pavilion providing year-round training opportunities for all Dolphin athletes.


The groundbreaking ceremony marks a significant milestone in developing our community's educational infrastructure. Construction begins this spring, with the new school to be completed for the 2026-2027 school year. The project team includes Goodwyn Mills Cawood (GMC) and DLR Group for architecture design, Rabren General Contractors for construction, and Volkert, Inc. serving as the program manager.

City of Foley Firefighters Praised for High Performance

Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — Fire protection in Foley has gotten better over the past few years, even though firefighters are answering more calls than before. A national study showed that the city's fire service has improved. Mayor Ralph Hellmich said the higher score proves Foley’s firefighters are doing a great job under growing pressure. He credited Chief Joey Darby and the entire department for their work in keeping the community safe.
Full Moon Paddle Returns to Orange Beach Friday

Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — The Foley Police Department is investigating a burglary that happened overnight at the Tanger Outlet Mall. An employee at Zales Outlet called the police around 8:30 a.m. Monday. They reported that jewelry had been stolen during the night. The value of the stolen items has not been released.
Mini Golf Planned for Bubba’s Seafood House Property

Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) — A group of four people is planning a new mini-golf course at the site of longtime Bubba’s Seafood House on beach road. John Pilcher, Jody Pilcher, Mary Pilcher and Emmie Pilcher Flowers are making the request. According to Baldwin County tax records, the group owns six parcels fronting the road east of Fat Daddy’s. They will request changes to a previously submitted site plan.
