Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – A man has been arrested after a woman was found unconscious with severe injuries in a Gulf Shores roadway on Wednesday afternoon.

At approximately 12:44 p.m. on January 29, officers responded to a report of an injured person in the 900 block of West Lagoon Avenue. When they arrived, they discovered a 77-year-old woman from Sauk Rapids, Minnesota, lying in the road.

Emergency responders from Gulf Shores Fire Rescue and EMS provided medical care before she was airlifted to a hospital, where she remains in critical condition.

Investigators from the Traffic Homicide Unit and Criminal Investigation Division determined that the woman had been walking in a pedestrian crosswalk when she was struck by a vehicle.

Evidence collected at the scene led to the arrest of 43-year-old Gustavo Licona-Hernandez of Calera, Alabama. He has been charged with felony Failure to Report an Accident with Serious Injuries and is currently being held at the Gulf Shores City Jail.
