Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) —  Orange Beach High School students and community members are celebrating homecoming week. The town is gearing up for several upcoming festivities supporting the Makos. Fans are encouraged to break out their school gear for the events. The community is invited to gather and show school pride. The Orange Beach Store sells official Mako Merchandise. 

Festivities begin today, Thursday, September 24, with the annual community pep rally. The event will be held at the beachfront at CoastAL Orange Beach, starting at 6:00 PM. Supporters will gather directly on the sand to cheer on the local team.

The celebration continues on Friday, September 25, with sports and family entertainment on campus. Tailgating begins before kickoff. The team takes the field later that evening to face their next opponent.

• Halftime: Homecoming Court Presentation

The special homecoming court presentation will highlight the traditional halftime festivities. Community members plan to fill the stands to honor the student court. The event brings students and alumni together each autumn.

On the field, head coach Wade Waldrop is receiving major recognition. Waldrop won WKRG's JBT Power Coach of the Week award for week five of Friday night football. The weekly television honor highlights top prep coaches across the region.

Coach Waldrop has led the Makos to an undefeated 5-0 start this season. That flawless record has Orange Beach in first place in the 4A-1 region. Strong preparation has kept the squad focused each week.

Tough defensive play has been a cornerstone of the team's success. Waldrop's defense is holding opposing offenses to nine points per game. That stingy average has kept opponents from gaining momentum.

This is not the first major award for the head coach. He was named Coach of the Year in 2019 by the Alabama Football Coaches Association while at James Clemens High School.

The Makos enter homecoming fresh off another decisive regional victory. The squad earned a 43-6 home win on Friday over the B.C. Rain Raiders, a dominant performance that pleased the home crowd.

Now, Waldrop and the 5-0 Makos are preparing to host the 1-3 Marion Rams. Players and coaches hope to maintain their perfect season. The entire town is invited to come out and support the team.
