Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — Foley is moving forward with plans to improve roads throughout the city. The City Council has agreed to start the bidding process for its 2025 street resurfacing projects. Once the bids come in, city officials will decide how to move forward. The final cost will be based on those bids and how closely they match budget expectations.

Jeff Phillips, the city’s construction manager, said the resurfacing project is expected to stay within budget. “This is our annual resurfacing. It should be very close to budget,” Phillips told council members. He explained that the next step is getting approval to seek bids, and then they’ll return with a request for funding.

Mayor Ralph Hellmich said city staff evaluate all of Foley’s roads each year. They look at how often streets are used and their condition to decide which ones need resurfacing.

“The streets are selected based on a grading system based on amount of use and condition,” Hellmich said.

The list of roads proposed for resurfacing includes 10 streets around Foley. 

The plan includes Brookwood Circle, Dogwood Circle, Baldwin County 20 west from Hickory Street to Alabama 59, Baldwin County 24 from Alabama 59 to Juniper Street, Berry Avenue next to Alabama 59 including the connecting bicycle path, North Cedar Street from U.S. 98 to Fern Avenue, Parkwood Drive, Wedgewood Drive and South Cedar Street from U.S. 98 to Verbena Avenue. 

North Cedar Street from Peachtree Avenue to Baldwin County 24 is also included on the list as an additional alternate project if funding allows.
