Baldwin County Warns Residents About Fraudulent Payment Requests
Law enforcement was notified after fake invoices claimed to be from county offices

The Baldwin County Commission has issued a public warning after being notified of a fraudulent invoice scam. Officials say the scam involves payment requests that falsely claim to be from Baldwin County departments. The incident has been reported to law enforcement. County leaders are urging residents and businesses to stay alert.
The scam alert was issued on Thursday, January 8, 2026, after a contractor received a fraudulent invoice. The invoice claimed to be from the Baldwin County Planning and Zoning Department. It requested payment using methods the county does not use.
According to county officials, Baldwin County will never request payments by wire transfer, cash, gift cards, or any other untraceable method. Officials stressed that these payment types are commonly used in scams. Residents are urged to treat such requests as suspicious.
Legitimate payments to Baldwin County are accepted only in person at county offices or online. The county uses the official CitizenServe Portal for online transactions. That portal is available at www.BaldwinCountyAL.gov/CSP.
County officials say anyone who receives a suspicious payment request should not send money. Instead, they should verify the request by contacting the department directly. Official phone numbers are listed on the county’s website at
www.BaldwinCountyAL.gov.
