Gulf State Park Plans Spring Dive Against Debris Event
Volunteers can snorkel or dive beneath the Pier during the park’s spring cleanup event.
Gulf Shores, Ala. — (OBA) — Gulf State Park is organizing its spring Dive Against Debris event later this month. The cleanup aims to remove underwater debris from beneath the Saltwater Pier. Volunteers will be permitted to snorkel and dive under the pier during the event. The pier will be closed to fishing during the cleanup.
The event is set for Saturday, April 25. Gulf State Park stated that volunteers must register to receive updates on the cleanup. Registration will also be used to share any weather-related changes related to the event.
Organizers said the event provides community members with an opportunity to clean an area that is often excluded from typical shoreline cleanups. By focusing on the area below the pier, volunteers will remove debris that has accumulated underwater near the structure.
Snorkel gear and dive gear can be arranged through Down Under Dive Shop. A boat drop-off can also be arranged through the same business. These options are available for volunteers who want help preparing to take part in the cleanup.
Gulf State Park said registration is required before the event. Organizers are using the registration process to send information to participants in advance, including updates if weather affects the event schedule or operations.

The event will temporarily alter normal activity at the Saltwater Pier. Fishing will be paused while volunteers work beneath the structure. This closure is meant to allow snorkelers and divers to safely remove debris during the scheduled cleanup.
