Foley, Ala. — (OBA) — Baldwin County officials report progress on safety upgrades at a busy intersection in Foley. Road crews have completed improvements along County Road 26, also known as West Michigan Avenue. The focus has now shifted to widening South Hickory Street and adding new turn lanes to reduce congestion. County leaders say the project aims to improve traffic flow and safety for drivers in the area.

The project focuses on the intersection of County Road 26, West Michigan Avenue, and South Hickory Street in Foley. It is part of several road projects currently underway as traffic continues to increase in Baldwin County.

According to the county, crews have finished their work along County Road 26. That part of the project included improvements needed to support changes on South Hickory Street. Construction has now shifted to widening South Hickory Street and adding new turn lanes at the intersection.

Once the roadway work on South Hickory Street is finished, contractors will move to the final step of the project. The last phase will be installing a permanent mast arm traffic signal at the intersection. County officials say the new signal will help manage traffic and improve safety at the intersection of the two roads.

The project is a joint effort between the Baldwin County Commission and the City of Foley. Both local governments are working together to address traffic concerns raised by residents and businesses. The shared goal is to make the intersection safer and more efficient for daily commuters and visitors.

“We're pleased with the progress being made as work continues toward completion of this project,” said Charles “Skip” Gruber, Baldwin County District 4 Commissioner. He said the improvements reflect the county’s commitment to keeping up with growth and improving infrastructure.
