Alabama Coaches and Athletes Bring Team Spirit to Orange Beach

The Tide Rolls into Orange Beach

Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – On Saturday, April 27, 2024, the University of Alabama brought its "Tide on Tour" event to Orange Beach, delighting fans with the chance to meet and greet Crimson Tide coaches and student-athletes.


The event, held at the Perdido Beach Resort, featured head football coach Kalen DeBoer, men's basketball coach Nate Oats, and several star players, including redshirt junior quarterback Jalen Milroe from Katy, Texas, graduate student defensive back Malachi Moore from Trussville, Alabama, and freshman wide receiver Ryan Williams from Saraland, Alabama, were among the athletes in attendance.


During the meet and greet, the coaches and players posed for photos and signed autographs for fans at the Perdido Beach Resort. The coaches and players took the time to interact with each of the attendees.


After the meet and greet, the coaches and players made a special appearance at the Flora-Bama's annual Interstate Mullet Toss.

Fox 10 News, Milroe got into the fish-flinging frenzy, tossing a mullet an impressive 94 feet.


DeBoer and Milroe shared their excitement for the upcoming season under new leadership with Fox 10 News. "I think we're on our way, you know, doing what we want to do and what we need to do here at Alabama and that's to win a lot of football games," DeBoer said.


Milroe echoed his coach's sentiments, stating, "I think what you can expect is a great football team that's ready, that's hungry, that's ... looking to compete, no matter what the opponent that we're gonna play."


The "Tide on Tour" event is part of a larger initiative by Yea Alabama, the University's official entity for student-athlete name, image, and likeness (NIL) opportunities.


The tour will also make stops in Birmingham and Huntsville, with proceeds from ticket sales supporting Yea Alabama and Alabama student-athletes.


The visit to Orange Beach generated a lot of excitement among local fans, as the Crimson Tide coaches and players engaged with the community and showcased their enthusiasm for the upcoming season.

Five Sea Turtles Released Wednesday on Perdido Key

Perdido Key, Fla. – (OBA) – A mix of green and loggerhead sea turtles, ranging from juveniles to adults, were released Wednesday morning into the Gulf of Mexico after being rehabilitated. The turtles had been accidentally hooked by fishermen off local fishing piers and were treated at the Gulfarium's CARE Center in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.

Gulf Shores Pedestrian Bridge Design Phase Ongoing

Gulf Shores, Ala. – (OBA) – The pedestrian bridge planned in Gulf Shores over the Intracoastal Waterway at East Second Street is still in the design phase, Mayor Robert Craft said following a regular council meeting on May 13. Ryan Shamburger, general manager of Big Beach Brewing and a resident of the neighborhood framed by East Second Street and Canal Road, said several of the residents approached him with questions about the bridge. Foley, Ala. – (OBA) – A Foley man was arrested and charged with assault after shooting his brother during an altercation on Monday. According to the Foley Police Department, 28-year-old Deion McMillan was shot in the leg by his brother, Quave McMillan, 31, at their family property on Airport Road.

Superintendent Matt Akin announced to the City Council that the celebration would take place on Wednesday the 15th at LuLu's in Gulf Shores. The festivities will begin at 6 PM.
