Orange Beach to Host New Junior Angler Event Focused On Competition And Conservation
Middle- and high-school anglers will compete in separate divisions, with cash payouts for top teams.
Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – A new fishing tournament for high-school and middle-school-age kids will debut this summer with the Gulf of America Inshore Invitational. Teens in grades 9 through 12 are eligible for one division, and seventh- and eighth-graders for a second.
The tournament will be on June 20 and will be headquartered at The Wharf. The cost is $150 for a two-man team, with cash payouts to the top three in each division.
“The tournament will feature a live fish, live weigh-in format and will consist of two-man teams accompanied by an adult captain,” organizer Ryan Long said in a release. “Anglers will compete in both High School or ninth-12th grade and Junior Angler or seventh-eighth grade divisions targeting redfish and speckled trout.”
There will also be a category for a “five-fish aggregate” for the anglers to enter. Long said the goal is to develop the next generation of competitive anglers.
“Presented by the Gulf of America Junior Angler Saltwater Championship Series, the event is designed to introduce a professionally operated, conservation-focused saltwater tournament experience for junior anglers while creating an exciting atmosphere for families, spectators, and the local fishing community,” Long’s release said.
