Gulf Shores Triathlon Returns For Its 19th Year This Month
The popular endurance event returns to Gulf Place Public Beach and The Hangout
Gulf Shores, Ala. — (OBA) — Swimmers, cyclists and runners are gearing up for one of Alabama's most beloved endurance events. Registration is now open for the 19th annual Brett/Robinson Alabama Coastal Triathlon in Gulf Shores. The Hangout will serve as race headquarters for the event. The event kicks off one week from today with packet pickup from 4 to 6 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026, at The Hangout. Race-day packet pickup and late registration will be available Saturday morning from 5:30 to 6:30 a.m. The Olympic-distance race is set to begin at 7 a.m., with the sprint "Tri-It-On" race following at 7:45 a.m.
Competitors can choose from several race formats, including Olympic and sprint triathlon distances. Swim-bike, bike-run, and relay divisions are also available, giving athletes flexibility to compete in the way that best suits their training.
The course begins with an open-water swim in the Gulf, followed by a flat bike course along the beach road. The "Tri-It-On" course is 2 miles out and back on E. Beach Blvd. heading east of The Hangout. The Olympic Distance course is a 6-mile out-and-back course east of The Hangout. You will pass the "Tri-It-On" turnaround, which is one mile out. Note: the course is 6 miles vs. 6.2 miles.
Post-race festivities will follow the competition, featuring food, beverages, and the lively atmosphere the event has cultivated over nearly two decades. Organizers encourage participants to register early to secure their spot. The triathlon has become a signature fall event for the Gulf Shores area, drawing athletes from across the region year after year.
