Pirate Dinner Theater Fades While New Development Plans Move Forward

The Orange Beach Planning Commission's June 8 meeting will consider a range of development proposals, including a new Margaritaville housing phase.
Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – The unpopular Pirate Dinner Theater project being considered for the current Beech’s Camper and Mobile Home Park hasn’t completely left the building. But it’s more than likely on the way out, even as it appears as a non-action item on an upcoming planning commission agenda.
The Orange Beach Planning Commission will meet in a regular session on June 8 in council chambers at City Hall at 4 p.m., with a work session slated for 3 p.m.
Because of procedural protocol, the item for the planned unit development for the attraction appears at the bottom of the upcoming planning commission agenda, “as items not meeting the second deadline” for consideration by the commission. This is the second deferral by the applicant, as city staff awaits additional information requested from the applicant regarding the possible development. The plan presented to citizens at the May 6 town hall meeting was not well-received.
During the meeting, the commission will also:
- Have a public hearing date for Margaritaville for The Wharf Landing to rezone 28 acres from general business to PUD to build 142 two- to five-bedroom homes in phase three of the development. Also on the agenda is a request for a site plan review for the “back of the house district” at Margaritaville, including a 14,500-square-foot building, a 4,000-square-foot maintenance building, and a parking lot. - Hear a request from April Yancey to subdivide a lot at 28290 Canal Road into two lots in an area zoned for single-family residential. It is located in the southwest corner of the intersection of Canal Road and Holder Road.
- Discuss a site plan review for the Ono Yacht Sales boat brokerage office building planned for 4391 William Silvers Parkway.
