Orange Beach Considers Pickleball And Tennis Center Improvements
Officials will review bids for LED lighting and site repairs as part of the city’s ongoing recreation campus expansion.
Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – As plans move forward and work continues on improvements to the recreation campus, Orange Beach is considering measures to help along the project. A renovated pool and a new pool are in the plans, along with a new Contorno Park west of the campus. Up next are items for the new pickleball courts and the tennis center.
The city council will discuss these items at a joint regular/work session meeting on Feb. 10 in council chambers at City Hall at 5 p.m.
Councilors will have preliminary discussions on purchasing LED Musco Sports Lighting for the tennis courts for $139,900. This does not include installation costs.
During the work in the area of the pickleball courts, officials found that additional site work would be needed for sidewalk repairs, fencing, and other site work for $36,431. See related story: Orange Beach recreation campus gets major upgrades
Both the lighting and sitework are on the work session agenda and will likely be voted on in the first March meeting. The council is meeting on the first two Tuesdays of February because of the Fat Tuesday holiday on Feb. 17.
During the regular session, the council will also discuss:
- Authorizing payment of goods and services from Feb. 4-17 for $989,048.
- Approving a special events liquor license for The Wharf Boat Show on March 2022.
- Awarding annual bids for dumpster and roll-off container waste services.
- Awarding the bid for three 2025 Honda Pioneer UTVs for the fire department to Hall’s Motorsports Eastern Shore for $61,245.
- Awarding a bid for a flashover simulator for the new fire training structure for $124,971.
- Amending the rental agreement and fee schedule for the Senior Center. There are different fees for weekdays, Monday through Thursday nights, Friday nights, Saturdays, and Sundays. There is also a different fee for residents and nonresidents, with the latter about double what residents pay.
- Buying a Ford F150 super crew four-by-four pickup for $58,999 for the fire department.
- Authorizing the purchase of diffuser sleeves from Parkson Corp., for the Utilities Department, for $37,896.
- Buying a Ford F150 super crew pickup for the Sportsplex for $48,724.
- An ordinance to update the Board of Zoning Adjustment appeals process.
During the work session, the council will discuss:
- Appointing a voting delegate for the Alabama League of Municipalities Annual Convention and the Alabama Municipal Insurance Corp. Annual Meeting in Montgomery on April 28-May 1.
- A request from the Garden Club for use of the arts center.
- A funding request from the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo.
- Leasing options for the former finance office on Orange Beach Boulevard north of city hall.
- Retiring canine officer Sadie and transferring ownership of her to Officer Brennan Giles. In another resolution, the council will discuss buying another K9 officer from Gulf Coast K9 for $12,000.
- Buying vehicle emergency equipment for the police department from Emergency Lighting by Haynes for $63,551.
- Authorizing a contract with Motorola Solutions for GIS managed services for the police department for $88,822.
- A software agreement with Tranquility AI for AI-powered evidence analysis for the police department for $39,999.
- Authorizing a tax franchise for JOLA Transportation to run a taxi business in the city and within the city’s police jurisdiction.
- Purchasing a vehicle for the Sewer Department for $48,639.
- A contract for law enforcement services with Baldwin County to help out during special events in Orange Beach.
