Orange Beach, Ala. – (OBA) – Winter has gripped the Gulf Coast, bringing icy road conditions, power outages, and hazardous travel. As of 9:00 a.m., temperatures linger at a frigid 23°, with a forecasted high of just 35°—not warm enough to thaw snow and ice from roads and bridges. Tonight's low is expected to dip to 22°, exacerbating already treacherous conditions.

Local authorities from Orange Beach, Gulf Shores, Foley, and Baldwin EMC are urging residents to stay off the roads and conserve power while crews work tirelessly to restore services and clear travel routes. Here’s the latest update from officials in our area.

From Orange Beach Police Dept:
Winter Weather Update:

The roadways are still completely snow covered. Ice conditions have been drastically increasing due to the low temperatures last evening. Four-wheel drive only vehicles can access the bridges for EMERGENCIES ONLY. Please continue to stay off the roadways.

From the City of Gulf Shores:
Stay off the Roads!

Road crews are actively working to clear bridges and roads in our area. While we anticipate reopening the W.C. Holmes Bridge with limited access later today, we strongly urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel.

If you must travel:

- Drive at reduced speeds

- Maintain extra distance between vehicles

- Watch for ice, especially on bridges and overpasses

Please stay home if possible. Your safety is our primary concern. We will provide updates as conditions change.

From the City of Foley:

Foley city offices will be closed Wednesday due to severe weather conditions.

Police and fire are reporting difficult driving conditions while answering calls and drivers are urged to stay off local roads if at all possible.

Save Power on Cold Winter Days

From Baldwin EMC:
We are asking members to continue to conserve this morning, especially through 9 a.m. Crews are working to restore power to outages and are trying their best to troubleshoot and make repairs where load is causing intermittent power. Travel for them has definitely been impacted by the weather. If you experience an outage, please report it by calling 251-989-6247 or texting BALDWIN then OUTAGE to 85700.
