National Pecan Pie Day Sweetens Up July 12 With Southern Tradition

From family recipes to gourmet bakeries, there are plenty of ways to join the celebration

Pecan Pie - a Southern Dessert Favorite

Orange Beach, Ala. — (OBA) —  National Pecan Pie Day celebrates one of the South's most beloved desserts. A classic pecan pie is made with sugar or corn syrup, eggs, butter, and pecans. The day is the perfect occasion to bake a family recipe, pick up a gourmet pie, or explore creative twists on the classic.

This year, the holiday falls on Sunday, July 12, 2026. Early recipes for pecan pie date to the late 1890s. The dessert gained widespread popularity in the early 20th century, largely due to the commercial marketing of corn syrup as a go-to filling ingredient.

The United States produces more than 80% of the world's pecans. That distinction makes pecan pie a uniquely American tradition. Albany, Georgia, is widely recognized as the world's pecan capital, with more than 600,000 pecan trees within the city.

There are several ways to mark the occasion. Home bakers can dust off a cherished family recipe or try something new, such as pecan pie bars, a pecan pie milkshake, or a version spiked with bourbon or chocolate. Those who prefer to leave the baking to the pros can order a gourmet Texas-style pecan pie from the Collin Street Bakery.

Local bakeries and diners may also get in on the fun. Many establishments offer special deals and discounts on slices to celebrate the holiday. Checking in with neighborhood shops on July 12 could yield some sweet savings, or you could make your own with this

It is worth noting that National Pecan Pie Day is not the same as National Pecan Day. National Pecan Day falls on April 14 each year and honors the pecan nut and the agricultural workers who grow and harvest it. The two holidays are often confused, but each has a distinct focus.
